Challenge

Five Below has grown exponentially in the past several years, culminating in a recent ribbon cutting at the 601st store in its hometown of Philadelphia. The chain’s expansion led to new signage challenges—should their unique blue storefront be calculated as square footage by each respective city jurisdiction?

Solution

Apex Sign Group stepped in to assist with these potential square footage issues by first conducting a thorough code check with each city, then communicating with the city planners prior to lease execution. These preliminary reviews successfully presented Five Below’s case that the so-called “blue fascia” is an architectural element and not part of the sign.

Result

This level of service has allowed Five Below to consistently brand stores in 32 states.  Five Below opened 80 stores in 2017 and has plans for 100+ in 2018—with Apex Sign Group as a proud partner in the role.
